Evaluation

Deciding wether globalisation is good or bad is a complex issue. There are many positive and negative factors in evaluating globalisation, though on balance the benefits outweigh the disadvantages of globalisation. Globalisation has made a big impact on the way we live.

Globalisation has improved the lives of many people around the world. It has reduced poverty by expanding the global market which is allowing people from poorer countries to sell goods to the world. Globalisation has improved the health of the world's population by giving people access to new medical technology. For example, the wide spread use of vaccines in third world countries has prevented many diseases such as measles. Peoples lives have been enriched by having access to knowledge from around the world, food from other countries, many different religions and being exposed to other cultures.

Though there are some negative impacts of globalisation, many of the issues that are associated with globalisation can be improved.

  • One of these is the use of sweatshops, which are factories in less developed countries that produce products for Trans National Corporations. The conditions inside these factories are appaling and workers get paid very little for the amount of hours they work. However consumer pressure has led to some companies improving the pay and conditions.
  • Also many blame the increase in pollution on the growth of the world's economy as a result of globalisation. Though globalisation may have created more pollution it also could bring the answers through the spreading of scientific knowledge and technology to prevent the spread of pollution.

Globalisation is a good thing though there are some issues which we need to resolve.
